So now that I’m experimenting with fruit in the blender, I wondered about blending up something chocolate… I Googled chocolate banana smoothies and came up with several recipes that looked good (like this one).
I decided to stick with something simple the first time, and basically made this Dark Chocolate Banana Smoothie, except that I used milk instead of almond milk and not as many (or maybe not any?) ice cubes. It was good and chocolate-y, but seemed kind of rich, even though it doesn’t have any sugar or anything in it.
I got to thinking about how nice a mint – chocolate smoothie would be, so I tried it. 😉 It was delicious; I think that the mint cut through some of the banana flavor and gave it a nice subtle freshness. I also added another tablespoon of cocoa powder, which also helped mask the banana flavor, since it’s really not my favorite. The one thing in the banana’s favor is that it adds enough natural sweetness that this is a nice pseudo-dessert and is definitely on the healthy side!
- 1 banana, chopped into 1-inch pieces
- 3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder
- about 4 ice cubes
- a handful of mint leaves (and stems)
- some milk
Put everything in the blender, and blend away. I can’t really tell if the different settings on the blender really do different things when I’m making a smoothie, so I switch back and forth between them. 😉
